Fort Edward to Appoint Principal

Fort Edward, May 26, 2022 – The Fort Edward Union Free School District Board of Education is pleased to announce its intent to appoint Erin Russo, as the K-12 Principal of The Fort Edward School at a special meeting of the Board of Education on Tuesday, May 31st, 2022. Ms. Russo is currently the High School Counselor at The Taconic Hills Central School District.

Interim Superintendent Mark Bessen shared, “We are excited to have Ms. Russo as our new building principal beginning this July.  John Godfrey and I worked with incoming Superintendent Dr. Richard DeMallie along with a group of stakeholders and the Board of Education to identify a candidate that will be a leader and part of the community.  Following initial screenings and interviews, five candidates were brought before a group of students, parents, teachers, and staff members.  The Board then interviewed the two finalists recommended by the stakeholder group. After three rounds of interviews, it became clear that Erin has the skills and qualities to successfully lead the Fort Edward School.  Administration would also like to thank all of the faculty, staff, students, and board members who participated in the process.

Ms. Russo stated, “I am so excited to be joining the Fort Edward community.  I am at home in small, rural districts, and I think Fort Edward and I are going to be a great fit.  I am looking forward to leading a dedicated team of teachers as we help guide the students of Fort Edward toward a bright future.”

Ms. Russo earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wake Forest University, and a master’s degree in school counseling from Sage Graduate School.  She completed her administrative degree at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She holds the following NYS certifications: School Counselor, School Building Leader, and School District Leader.

Ms. Russo will replace Interim Principal John Godfrey. Erin has been married to her husband, Tom, for 22 years.  They have two children; Lillian is a freshman at the University of Denver, and Eli is finishing his sophomore year at Taconic Hills Central School District.
