Summer Academy ends with a morning of celebration and fun!

Students in grades K-8 started the day on Thursday, 7/28 celebrating their participation in Summer Academy.  Mrs. Russo recognized students that had weekly perfect attendance and then she recognized 28 individuals (K-6) and 7 individuals (7/8) that attended Summer Academy every day!

Students in grades 7 and 8 had an ice cream sundae party at school and then went to Broadway Lanes for some bowling fun.  They were joined by Dr. DeMallie and many showed off their bowling skills.  Mr. Chase tried giving some helpful pointers to some, while he scouted out some potential team members for his bowling squad.  This was a great way to end the Summer Academy session for our middle school group.

The K-6 classes then boarded the bus to the Fort Edward Community Pool and were greeted by their amazing lifeguard staff.  The kids had a blast swimming and enjoying themselves in the pool on a beautiful day.  Stewart's was generous enough to donate an ice cream sundae party for our kids to enjoy.  We were also joined by Rachel Yattaw from the Glens Falls Hospital and she played games with the kids poolside as she taught them the importance of sun safety.  She brought sunscreen and sunglasses for the kids to win on her prize wheel.  Last but not least we had a visit from Mrs. Plude from the Fort Edward Free Library.  She came to recognize all of the Summer Academy Students that joined her summer reading program, Oceans of Possibilities.  Each classroom teacher grades K-6 collaborated with the library this summer to encourage a love of reading.  The students K-6 collectively read over 21,000 minutes during Summer Academy.  That's amazing!  She gave each student a beach towel and an award  for their reading efforts.   Mrs. Russo joined us for some poolside fun too and was very proud to hear how many reading minutes or students accumulated during Summer Academy.   We ended our morning with a special delivery from Mrs. Glass and her cafe crew delivering us lunches as students were dismissed.

Both trips were the perfect way to celebrate the end of our K-8 Summer Academy program.

Special thanks to Mrs. Plude and the Fort Edward Free Library, the Town of Fort Edward and the amazing lifeguard staff, Stewart's Shops, Mrs. Glass and the cafe crew, Broadway Lanes, Craig Masten, Mrs. Russo, Dr. DeMallie, the Summer Academy team, students, and parents.
